Standards National Action Plan 2022 - 2027

SNAP 2022-27 defines the standardisation vision and mission of BIS, identifies the strategic imperatives of BIS, draws an action plan towards addressing these through various initiatives enumerates a set of transcending priorities in standardization, identifies key standardisation topics/ subjects that are to be taken up assigning the priorities, to be implemented in the next five years, i.e. 2022 to 2027. For all these initiatives and associated actions, the BIS technical committees would play a key role and serve as a guiding force.

BIS Annual Reports

During the year, BIS continued to strengthen the national standards framework through formulation of new Indian Standards and revision of existing ones, incorporating technological advancements, safety requirements, environmental considerations and international best practices. Increased harmonization with International Standards has supported ease of doing business, enhanced global competitiveness and facilitated trade, while addressing national priorities

Strategic Roadmaps for BIS Technical Committees

The Strategic Roadmap  of the BIS Technical Committees has been developed as a document that would reflect its vision of National Standardization and provide a broad standardization strategy roadmap with a five-year perspective. The aim is to align the standardization work with the needs of the current business environment and allow sectional committees to prioritize amongst different projects, identify the benefits expected from the availability of Indian Standards, and ensure adequate resources for their development.

BIS Lab Recognition Scheme 2020

BIS operates a variety of Conformity Assessment Schemes for manufacturers and service providers for a variety of goods and services.

BIS operates Laboratory Recognition Scheme which is governed by the provisions under Section 13 (4) of the BIS Act 2016 and Rule 32 of the BIS Rules, 2018. These statutory provisions confer upon BIS, powers to recognize any laboratory in India or outside India for carrying out testing of samples in relation to conformity assessment and such other functions as the Bureau may assign to it.
