European Commission Work Programme 2026

The 2026 Commission work programme sets out the key strategies, action plans and legislative initiatives that will lay the foundation for the work ahead during this mandate and help deliver on our ambition to build a strong, secure, and prosperous Europe.

The Commission aims to building a more sovereign and independent Europe and reduce its dependencies with regard to critical technologies.

Therefore, the Commission plans to propose the Cloud and AI Development Act, the Chips Act 2.0 and the Quantum Act in the first half of 2026. Simplification agenda holds significant relevance for the innovative digital sector, with upcoming initiatives including 28th Regime, a European Research Area Act, and a European Innovation Act to facilitate business and access to financing for all innovative companies, including SMEs.

European Commission’s Annual Union Work Programme 2025 for Standardization (AUWP)

The 2025 annual Union work programme for European standardisation. This Work Programme identifies the European standards and European standardisation deliverables that the Commission intends to request from the European standardisation organisations for 2025, together with specific objectives and policies for these standards and deliverables. It specifically support EU policies and legislation with the objective of contributing to a green, digital and resilient single market as well as the EU’s international objectives.

The International Digital Strategy 2025 for the European Union

EU plan for reinforcing its digital partnerships to promote cooperation with partner countries, the focus will be on priority areas, such as secure connectivity, emerging technologies (Artificial Intelligence, 5G/G6, semiconductors, quantum technologies), cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, and online platforms (including the protection of children online, freedom of speech and respect of privacy).

European Union Artificial Intelligence Act

The Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) is a European Union regulation concerning artificial intelligence (AI). It establishes a common regulatory and legal framework for AI within the European Union (EU). The regulation entered into force on 1 August 2024.

The European Green Deal

The European Green Deal is transforming the EU into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy.

Launched in 2019, it sets out a plan to transform Europe’s economy, energy, transport, and industries for a more sustainable future.

It aims to cut emissions by at least 50% by 2030, rising towards 55%, while legally binding the 2050 neutrality goal through the European Climate Law.  It pushes forward a clean transition that protects people and planet, is economically sound and socially fair.

The Clean Industrial Deal

The European Clean Industrial Deal launched on 26 February 2025 outlines concrete actions to turn decarbonisation into a driver of growth for European industries. This includes lowering energy prices, creating quality jobs and the right conditions for companies to thrive.

Second Circular Economy Action Plan

Circular Economy Action Plan (2020)

Adopted in March 2020, the second Circular Economy Action Plan is one of the main building blocks of the European Green Deal, Europe’s agenda for sustainable growth.

The action plan includes initiatives addressing the entire life cycle of products, including how products are designed, as well as ensuring that waste is prevented and that used resources are kept in the EU economy for as long as possible.
