MeitY launches new initiatives to increase IPv6 adoption in India

Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) launched three new initiatives--IP Guru, NIXI Academy, and NIXI-IP-Index to help Indian entities migrate and adopt Internet Protocol version IPv6. The IP Guru group will hire an agency that will work with end customers to provide them with the necessary technical support to adopt IPv6. For this initiative, MeitY has joined hands with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and the community to promote IPv6, and comprises members from government and private organizations. The NIXI Academy, on the other hand, is focused on providing education about technologies like IPv6 to people from technical/non-technical backgrounds.

Government planning scheme to push investments into data centres

The government is formulating a scheme to incentivise investments to set-up hyperscale data centres in India and boost the capacity of the existing data centre ecosystem, besides working on new segments like drones and robotics to develop their manufacturing ecosystem in India. “The current scale of hyperscale data centres in India compared in terms of power consumed is 200 MegaWatts and our effort will be to come out with a policy and scheme that aims for a tenfold growth in this, in a very short time,” Secretary - MEITY, said in a virtual session.
