Project SESEI team at the outset would like to begin with thanking each one of you for your support, cooperation and guidance during SESEI 3. The need for collaboration and alignment of synergies between the major economies of the world has been recognized, established and Project SESEI has been acknowledged for its contribution towards creating a strong dialogue on standards around emerging technologies & related technologies. The Fourth phase of Project SESEI after its due approval process has commenced from 15th July 2019.
Newsletters from Project SESEI are considered important tools for sharing of information and knowledge around Standards & related policies work around Project priority Sectors (ICT, Automotive, Electrical Equipment including Consumer Electronics) covering latest on standards, guidelines published and important research and growth-related activities being carried out in Europe. We are happy to present our first edition of “Newsletter India” from the desk of Project SESEI IV.
The month of October has been declared as the European Cybersecurity Month by the European Commission to raise awareness about cybersecurity threats. The awareness program is built around education and sharing of good practices on cybersecurity that should be a part of everyone’s daily routine, and the importance of ensuring that technology devices are secure.
In the 5G Technologies the ISG NFV (Network Function Virtualisation) committee of ETSI has announced a number of resource management and orchestration enhancements to its NFV specifications for supporting 5G networks. These features are essential to address the variety of applications expected to run on top of a 5G system. The European Commission has also urged its Member States to carry out risk assessments for rolling out 5G networks. A recommendation by the EC was released for achieving strong cybersecurity and for reaping the full benefits, which 5G will have to offer for people and businesses. 5G technologies are also crucial to the smooth deployment of IoT / M2M.
In the context of raising energy prices and growing attention to the environment, and ensuring energy efficiency CEN has developed EN 16247-1 ‘Energy Audits’, which will help guide organisations for their energy audits. CEN also released a Guide on the safety of pressure equipment
Artificial Intelligence is also gaining momentum in Europe, both ETSI as well as CEN CENELEC announced new focus groups on Artificial Intelligence. This is in line with the European Commission call to develop a vibrant European Network of Artificial Intelligence Excellence Centres. Research and Innovation Action to mobilise the best researchers into networks of excellence centres and coordination and support to foster exchange on Artificial intelligence are the key focus areas.
The Smart cities and Smart living will be the main beneficiaries of the IoT / M2M technologies. Three new Ontology specifications concerning verticals i.e. Smart cities, Industry 4.0, and Smart agriculture were released by ETSI. It is also pertinent to mention that OneM2M global consortium for IoT/M2M specifications has been awarded as the top IoT Standards Body of the Year at the seventh Annual Compass Intelligence Awards. TSDSI and ETSI are members of OneM2M.
Apart from the above, Newsletter also contains many other interesting news and details of the important events and seminars being organized by the Project Partners and the Annual reports as released by CEN CENELEC and ETSI.
