Government:

Ministry of Power

The Ministry of Power is primarily responsible for the development of electrical energy in the country. The Ministry is concerned with perspective planning, policy formulation, processing of projects for investment decision, monitoring of the implementation of power projects, training and manpower development and the administration and enactment of legislation in regard to thermal, hydro power generation, transmission and distribution. The Ministry of Power is responsible for the Administration of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 and to undertake such amendments to these Acts, as may be necessary from time to time, in conformity with the Government’s policy objectives.

  • Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE):

    The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal Ministry of the Government of India for all matters relating to new and renewable energy. The broad aim of the Ministry is to develop and deploy new and renewable energy for supplementing the energy requirements of the country.
    MNRE facilitates research, design, development, manufacture, and deployment of new and renewable energy systems/devices for transportation, portable and stationary applications in rural, urban, industrial, and commercial sectors through:

    • Technology Mapping and Benchmarking.
    • Identify Research, Design, Development and Manufacture thrust areas and facilitate the same.
    • Lay down standards, specifications, and performance parameters at par with international levels and facilitate industry in attaining the same.
    • Align costs of new and renewable energy products and services with international levels and facilitate industry in attaining the same.
    • Appropriate international level quality assurance accreditation and facilitate industry in obtaining the same.
    • Facilitate industry in becoming internationally competitive and a net foreign exchange earner Resource Survey, Assessment, Mapping and Dissemination.
    • Identify areas in which new and renewable energy products and services need to be deployed in keeping with the goal of national energy security and energy independence.

    • Deployment strategy for various indigenously developed and manufactured new and renewable energy products and services.
    • Provision of cost-competitive new and renewable energy supply options.

    Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) Meity is responsible for IT policy, strategy, and development of the electronics industry. Among other functions, MEITY is responsible for Policy matters relating Electronics, Matters relating to promotion and manufacturing of Semiconductor Devices in the country excluding all matters relating to Semiconductor Complex Limited (SCL), Mohali; Electronics Export and Computer Software Promotion Council (ESC) etc. it has following key units:


    Standards Development Organization:

    Electro-technical Division Council (ETD): BIS Standardization in the field of electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization equipment; and insulating materials, winding wires, measuring and process control instruments and primary and secondary batteries.     Electronics and Information Technology Division Council (LITDC): Standardization in the field of electronics and telecommunications including Information Technology. Within LITDC, 35 Technical Committees have so far developed over 1750 Indian Standards. For more information please click here

    India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF):

    India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) is a Public Private Partnership initiative of Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India for accelerated development of smart grid technologies in the Indian power sector. Mandate of ISGF is to advise government on policies and programs for promotion of Smart Grids in India, work with national and international agencies in standards development and to help utilities, regulators and the Industry in technology selection, training and capacity building. ISGF work closely with government institutions such as CEA, CPRI, CERC, NSGM and NCIIPC; ministries such as MNRE, DoT, MoUD, MoHI etc and other stakeholders like state governments, electric utilities and electricity regulatory commissions. With 170+ members comprising of ministries, utilities, technology providers, academia and research, ISGF has evolve as a Think-Tank of global repute on Smart Grids and Smart Cities. Read more>>


    Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA)

    IEEMA is the apex association of manufacturers of electrical, industrial electronics and allied equipment in India. It is the only association in India which supports its members with top-notch technical processes with support of its divisions. Recognised as the first point of reference for anything pertaining to Power and Electrical Equipment, IEEMA has strengthened its policy advocacy. The Government officials laud IEEMA for its data backed representations. It also continues to represent the interests of its members, in consonance with National interest.     Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA), is an all India body representing Consumer Electronics, Home Appliances and Mobile Industry. This apex body aims to enhance the development of Consumer Electronics & Appliances Industry and its components to maintain fair competition and healthy practices among manufacturers, dealers and other stakeholders.     Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA):

    Electronic Industries Association of India (Formerly Electronic Component Industries Association) was established in 1967. ELCINA actively interacts with the government and advises it on policy and business environment issues. It networks with technical institutions and business support organisations in India and abroad to enable business expansion and information dissemination on technical developments.     Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT): Set up in 1982, MAIT is the apex body representing India’s electronics & ICT hardware sector. MAIT is recognized by both the Government, as well as the industry, for its role in the growth and development of the IT Hardware industry.
