Kick starting the Device Certification Discussion in India: GCF/ETSI member and TSDSI held on 8/6/2015

Device Certification Discussion was scheduled by Global Certification Forum (GCF) and -TSDSI (Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India) especially around the Mobile Testing Standards developed by BIS.

The main aim for the discussion meeting was to collect the stakeholder’s views and recommendations on BIS draft standard on the safety and performance aspects of mobile phone handsets. BIS in Sep ‘14 released a draft standard on the safety and performance aspects of mobile phone handsets. In April 2015, TSDSI facilitated a discussion between BIS and GCF. There is a follow up meeting planned for Aug-Sep 2015. TSDSI took the initiative to collect stakeholder’s view on this topic, and presented the outcomes to BIS. BIS also agreed to work with TSDSI to develop the Technical Specification on their standards which could/would be used by Certification body for testing and certification. SESEI had worked with BIS in formulating this Mobile Standards in which various relevant ETSI standards have been referred for compliance. The meeting facilitated a healthy discussion during which the pros and cons from different stake holders were presented and a proposal was prepared. This activity will end with a report to the Secretariat and a presentation at the follow up meeting. The TSDSI GC / GBM will be responsible for any future activity within TSDSI.
